Sketches for rough Montana sapphires
Montana sapphires are known for their interesting blue-green tones and strange color zoning within the stone. These are great gems because they don’t usually have a heat treatment, are considered ethically sourced, and come in fantastic colors. Not only can you buy Montana sapphires already cut and faceted, but you can mine your own. There are areas in Montana where you can buy dirt and “mine” for your own gems. This client did just that, and instead of having her sapphires faceted, she is opting to keep them in their rough and natural state. Here are some ring ideas we sketched for her and the layout of sapphires she liked best.
