Restoring Beauty

Posted by on

While repairs are not really a service we offer, we do hold a special place in our hearts for antique jewelry that is in need of restoration. “What makes this different from a repair?” you might ask. First, the way this type of jewelry is made. These pieces tend to be very delicate and in many cases were made using a technique called die-striking. Second, they are usually made in platinum, and in some cases, white gold. And lastly, the type of work they need to have done usually includes rebuilding part of the structure or reinforcing it, pulling stones to fix their settings, and touching up the details that have gone missing.

Here are the before and after photos of a beautiful antique ring we recently restored to its original beauty. You can see that the ring had been bent with wear and that the stones hardly had any metal holding them in place. We cut out the old bezels, reset the diamonds, added milgrain back around the stones, and built in a bridge to keep the edges from bending inward.

Do you have an antique piece of platinum or gold jewelry that needs some love?
